Session Description:

In order to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world, students need to develop skills that will enable them to learn collaboratively, think flexibly, communicate creatively, and evaluate their own productivity and performance. In this workshop, participants will use ACTFL’s 21st Century Skills Map, research-based pedagogical strategies, and a variety of free, web 2.0 tools to support students in developing these 21st Century skills.

  • Conceptual Foundations
    • Definition of Technology: It is NOT about the tools, it is a way of thinking.
    • Emerging technologies: Shifts in what it means to be literate
    • Literacy: Changes in definition of literacy = need for shifts in educators' perspectives
    • Three Ps of the Culture of Collaboration: Critical & creative communication, personal learning networks, social action
    • Cognitive Flexibility & Adaptability: Need more than one tool in order to flexibly adapt to rapid pace of change and new information
